Before I go further I will be perfectly honest with you, I loved this film! I wasn't really sure what it would be like. The trailers gave some idea of what it would be like, but you also wondered whether the trailers showed all the best bits. However, with a cast including Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, both of whom are brilliant, it was destined to be great.

The story is fantasy through and through, although has a nice English base to it. The cast is a fair mix of the very rich and famous, the fairly well known and the brand new. Claire Danes is back on the big screen playing the quirky 'star' Yvaine and is strongly supported by lead actor Charlie Cox playing the innocent Tristan.

The plot is very different from good fantasy films released over the last few years, such as The Lord of the Rings. The script is both dramatic and funny and the whole film has a sweet kind of innocence to it; it really does leave you feeling contented inside. The comedy element to the film is aided by a band of fairly well known comedian / actors including Rupert Everett and David Walliams. The pair play Secundus and Sextus, the second and sixth of seven brothers (the others are aptly named: Primus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus and Septimus).  Whilst, the evil is added to the story by Lamia and her two sister - 'wicked witches'.

I could rave on for paragraphs about all of the different characters, but the best way to appreciate them all is to see the film. Whatever mood you are in, the film will leave you feeling a bit better about the world. This is a fairytale story for the adult world and definitely worth the 130 minutes it asks of you.
